Hi there, Sister, and Welcome to At Home on Mulberry Hill
I’m Jess, sinner saved by grace, wife to The Man Beyond My Wildest Dreams, momma to five children from teen years to toddlerhood, homeschooler, poet, and kitchen dance party enthusiast. I live in the Midwest on the real-life Mulberry Hill, spending my days teaching the children, loving my husband, and cultivating the atmosphere of home.
How it All Began
At Home on Mulberry Hill is the culmination of the dream of a young girl who always just wanted to grow up to marry a good man, have lots of sweet babies, and make home magical. I sometimes can’t believe that I get to live the life about which I spent so many years daydreaming. And you know what? It’s better than I imagined.
Not because life on Mulberry Hill is picturesque perfection; far from it. Chronic illness has palpably touched my life and those of my children. We have lived seasons marked by illness and surgeries, pain and panic. But we have seen the Lord’s faithfulness. His lovingkindness and steadfast love never cease. He surrounds us with so much goodness that even on the hardest days, shards of light break through the darkness.
At Home on Mulberry Hill is borne out of my desire to nurture beauty in fragile places, to take joy in the midst of very real life, to see magic in the utterly mundane. Whether by reading living books to the children, serving up a simple and delicious dessert, diving deep into the Scriptures, or draping a cozy blanket on the arm of sofa so our home may be a haven of hope and comfort, I hope to share the most helpful and beautiful bits and bobs with you here.
Our Journey to Mulberry Hill
Our journey to Mulberry Hill began over a decade ago. We sold our first house on a whim. In fact, we closed on the sale the very day we found out we were expecting our second child! The earnings from the house left enough to purchase a little house in our tiny town along with a twenty acre plot of land from my husband’s grandfather. We had all but given up on the dream of building our house on the hill, but in early 2024 we decided to give it a go! And the rest is (recent) history.
In fact, as I launch this dear ol’ blog of mine, we are still in the process of building so history continues to be made, board by board, day by day, memory by memory. And I’m thrilled that you’re with me through it all.
So, c’mon in! This is where I’ll share about finding beauty in the ordinary, nurturing the atmosphere of home, cultivating life-giving principles and practices in wifehood, motherhood, and homeschooling, and some of my very favorite resources that help me flesh out these ideals in my own home and family.
It is my sincere hope that when we say goodbye, we’ll both be encouraged to practice joy and contentment in this current season, and to do all things to the glory of God.
And as always, I’m cheering you on!
Heart to heart,
Jess
